No, delusional optimists. You’re alive because in the teeth of such overwhelming odds, it just so happens that you were assembled by the most random chance of aligning chromosomes.

The set of possible people determinable by our gene pool so vastly outweighs the actual amount of people, that to attribute your life to a plan so incredibly undermines the actual “luck” that you should be instead grateful for, that you lose sight of the majestic and random glory that you’re alive. We must not attribute our being to a higher purpose, for it runs the risk of instead taking advantage of every second we were accidentally afforded.

The actual possibility that you were born is so tremendously weighed against you, that you should be spending every moment of your life for the pursuit of not only what you love and are passionate for, but in the name of spontaneity. Take chances. Talk to that girl or boy you’re afraid to. Take that trip you’re afraid to. Get lost in nature, and don’t care when you’ll find your way back. Do anything within reason that you might be otherwise afraid to, because there are billions of unborn ghosts that gladly would had they been born in your place.

Decide to get up out of bed not because you have a purpose, but because against the millions and millions of unborn brothers and sisters you defeated in the race for your mother’s egg, you have the privilege to wake up. Life is, for the starving small demographic awarded it in the most rewarding lottery, such a wonderful gift to be born a human being. There are no greater odds to defeat. By simply waking up and opening your eyes, you have reason to get out of bed. That is more than enough reason to leave your bed in the morning, and face whatever challenge that awaits you that day. It literally doesn’t matter what it is. I understand that there are situations and circumstances, but nothing could be so “rough” as remaining stagnant, unused genetic material.

Count every day you have the opportunity to open your eyes and face challenges, experience feelings, love, art, nature, and companionship as what it is - the most rare and unlikely gift anything could ever hope for.

Why am I still hearing about the morality debate?

When religious people say they get their morality from the bible it’s a definite wtf moment. The Bible has the most horrendous acts of violence.. which was condoned by the god they pray to. The only reason the majority doesn’t kill babies is because of their ability to pick the good parts from the bad parts. And they’re able to do this because of… dun dun dun.. EVOLUTION!

I’m sure any atheist has realized this little conundrum with Christian arguments of morality and the bible.. but it has failed to enter their minds as to why they don’t murder meanwhile their god did it. But the theists who do use this argument will still cling to it with all they have left because I mean, what arguments do they have left?
